SANTED: Economics and Labour Studies

The broad theme of this programme is to build teaching and research capacity in support of social and economic development in Southern Africa. In this regard we have forged links with sister departments at the Universities of Eduardo Mondlane and Namibia. It has two thrusts, one in Economics and the other in Labour Studies, and it uses the synergies between the two through joint workshops and joint student exchange programmes. The Labour Studies thrust is led by Dr Bezuidenhout and involves field trips, annual research workshops and support for interns. During November 2006 Dr Bridget Kenny took her honours class on Labour in the Global Economy on a field trip to Lesotho.
