The Household Economy And The Community |
This research will focus on the changing resources both in monetary and in non-monetary terms in households. The aim will be to design and conduct empirical research regarding the changing household income and the role of the household economy during the economic and political transition in South Africa, Zambia and Zimbabwe. This includes defining key policies that impact on the wellbeing of households today. From various urban and rural communities, households will be chosen to identify monetary and non-monetary changes that have taken place in households and how these changes have influenced household relations.
The aims of the study are to examine:
- the nature of post-colonial households in the context of marketization
- collect data on monetary and non-monetary activities of households and household relations that shape these activities.
- the post-colonial policies that promote or impede household activities and relations
- policy implications of the research; particularly how household level research can inform national and local policies in eradicating poverty.
